Early this summer, I was thrilled when my Sister, Tracy, and her partner announced they were expecting their first baby! It was the last thing I was expecting and I welled up when I opened the envelope she gave me with her scan picture on the front! I couldn't believe she had kept it a secret for so long. I was going to be an Auntie!
Our whole family have been so excited ever since she told us. They had a little gender reveal in late July and found out they are expecting a baby boy. Eeek! I haven't been able to stop looking at baby clothes every time I go out and when a baby shower was mentioned in those early days, I knew it was my calling to arrange it! Amelia was so excited about this and hasn't stopped talking about it. We've been looking at Pinterest and she's spotted all the chocolate bar nappy games, etc and put that at the top of her list! Yuck!
The baby's nursery has been decorated with a sea life theme, and so I decided to make this the theme for the baby shower also. No easy task, as all the partyware on the market seemed to be blue elephants and trains. I found some cute clip arts on Etsy which I purchased and made matching invitations, book request cards and party games with them which I printed at home onto cardstock.
With one month until her due date, we decided to have the baby shower at the end of November. I set about making lists, and scouring Pinterest for ideas, as I'd never even been to a baby shower before, let alone hosted one!
On the morning of the baby shower, I was running around like a headless chicken like I always do when I'm having people over! My mum came over to help with the food, and I set out the table using all my Emma Bridgewater pottery. I don't use my pinks collection for everyday use, and some of the pieces had never been off my dresser, so it was nice to christen them!
My sister's fiance dropped in with some cupcakes which a lady he works with made as a surprise for her. They were sealife themed too and were AMAZING to look at, but even better to eat! The lady who made them is so talented.
We did some party games, such as guess the Mummy's waist size, and we left messages on nappies, filled out the prediction cards, etc. Amelia loved organising the games and handing out the pens etc.
Then it was time to open the gifts everyone had bought. It was so exciting seeing all the baby grows and cute baby things!
When it was time for everyone to leave, each guest received a favour; a scented yankee candle votive in a little blue organza bag. I bought the Baby Powder and Soft Blanket scents which remind me of babies!
All in all a lovely time was had by all. I LOVE planning events, but not so keen on hosting them due to anxiety, but it actually wasn't as bad as I had feared. All of the ladies were super-lovely and spoilt Tracy rotten, which is what it's all about!
